It seems barcode thermal printers looks like fine for small images and small prints... for biggers arduino based diy plotter seems far more reliable or laser printers... or just go to a book.. store then pay small amout and printing there is fine tough if anyone does tgis im sure itll turn to printer manufecturers case too :) we have to promote opensource. Closed source is not good for humanity ewen if it is for short period of time ;) becaise you or any technical professional cant do anything without so sicret schematics or docs of manufacturer ... usb standard like universal rule based standars is necessary for products doing similar jobs...

I thrown my similar printer because it doesnt ewen let you use scanner too without ink :) looks like a joke :) or prank.. so i think they are waste of time. I mean there is arduino based plotters .. tough i jave a mini thermal chinese printer and old brother laser printer which brothers old laser stayed on upper side of house under rain water and it still works after lots of cleaning and refill :)

I have the Canon G3501 Ink tank printer which looks exactly like this one in the video at home and rarely use it, Mainly for emergency document prints every month or so and yes every single time I have come to use it the tubes have massive gaps and no ink in them resulting in a forced ink flush wasting tons of ink and almost 30 mins later a useable printer again until this sponge fills up! Absolutely useless to me or anyone who rarely uses a printer at home and Canon should be recalling these whether in or out of warranty as they are not fit for purpose!, I have come to the conclusion owning a printer at home that is rarely used is just a total waste of time, Initial outlay of over £250 for this printer and then about 50 pages in over a year I have printed with this thing and it would have been cheaper to print online or in a shop somewhere and would have cost a fraction of what I have paid for the printer alone not even taking into account paper wastage and ink wastage, I am done with owning a printer at home and actually feel like shipping this POS! back off to canon with a threatening letter.

Pseudo fix to this problem, not sure how long it lasts. Verify that you have enough ink in the printer to do the following: 1. Pull the rubber stoppers on the refill ports and leave them open 2. While printer is on, push and hold the STOP button until the orange light blinks 5 times, this will start a cycle that pulls a large quantity of ink through the ink tubes 3. Lift the top of the printer to watch the tubes fill at the start of the cycle, this should only take a few seconds 4. When the tubes are full, pull the plug to cut power! (Yes, I mean pull the plug. Its the only way to stop the printer from wasting so much ink) 5. Refill inks if needed and put rubber stoppers back in refill ports 6. Set up printer for normal operation and print a large color wheel to test This worked for me, I hope it also works for everyone else having this issue.

I considered buying one of these tank printers, but ended up buying a color laser printer instead. That was over 10 years ago and it is still going! No problems! I only had to replace the black toner cartridge once not too long ago; the other colors are still good. It was mad expensive, but it was the best printer purchase I ever made, and saved me a ton of munny in the long run!

I recently got one of the g3000 series for printing cards, I run it almost constantly, done 5 ink refils for these full color pages so far, several thousand pages double side printed, and it's running fine. ran way past the duty cycle right away

Epson's printers also have major tech issues. So, I agree with your comment of not being able to find a good printer. Lots of Love, Light and Laughter Forever!

I had the same problem with that printer, i just died because of the "ink absorber", it lasted me... i think 3 years. But i did get a good 3 thousand pages. But i should have gotten way more if this was not designed to fail and have no way of repairing it.

Planned obsolescence. It’s everywhere today. Everything is designed to fail and, guess what; you the consumer, can’t fix the problem.

Are they a way to repair the foam myself? Or better yet bypass the sensors? Anybody know let me know. I'ma victim of a sorry big tank Canon. Thanks

This is late comment but better late than never don't wanna defend Canon, I did replace sponge from Ali express and you can enter maintenance mode and reset it from there you can find how to do it in RUclips, I agree Canon should make it more robots and more clear with their messages and Manuel but I have this printer and I am happy with it

New model has replaceable sponge at the back. You can just replace it and factory reset the printer so it works like new. I take a test print twice a week so the print heads won't clog. Also, replacement head is just 20 bucks each now. 😊

Same thing happened to me. Used it probably 200 times in 6 years for a very specific type of color photo doc in my office, otherwise my everyday printer is my amazing ancient HP B&W laserjet that refuses to die-- I think 25 years old... When you call Canon they offer you an effing 10% discount on a new POS printer. I'm going to replace it with an Epson, though no idea if they play the same games with the foam pad and the reset. Also curious what you would recommend to replace my beloved old HP laserjet when and if its time comes.

I had the identical issue and tried to fix it. It's complete trash and unrepairable - on purpose. I moved to a laser.

I'm glad I still use old printer that still accept OEM ink from sellers on Amazon for my Canon inkjet printers. My Canon printers are so old they are out of manufacture.

Only ink tank printer it was success in the market was from Epson they are the started ink tank systems and their printers are much costlier than the canon

Excuse me. Anyone who has ever had an inkjet printer knew that it couldn't work. Apparently it shouldn't. If the companies wanted to help users, they could have simply filled more ink into the traditional Cadriges.

Can I ask you if do you recommend putting a diy external ink waste tank to a canon inkjet printer to prevent the malfunction in the future?

... Wait. That's our exact old printer that I distinctly remember being a real bitch. I don't curse lightly by the way lol I've been rocking with a Brother DCP-T720DW since December and while there are things I prefer here and there from the old Pixma (difference on how loading paper works, scan results, etc.), all that don't matter when one of them just works. Crossing my fingers it stays working 🤞

Same thing happened to me a couple years back with this same machine when I used it. I cracked and ended up paying for the $10 key that reset the sponge, and I was actually surprised that it worked. I decided I wasn't going to keep it enough for real problems to start so I just left the sponges dirty. It's just super annoying that the sponges aren't at the very least, a consumable product. Lost opportunity and respect for Cannon with that one. Still, I love their printers when they are at their peek. Great video, thank you for posting!

Your mistake is to do ink flush. I bought a cleaning kit with a 500ml liquid bottle then i clean each color and/or the black, then i print full page of each cyan magenta and yellow. It requires multiple pages for each color. I don’t do any ink flush. Ink jet are sensible to temp difference, humidity. You should print one time a week at least. Fill the tank to the max to prevent ink dry as possible. Ink is not expensive. 16$cdn$ each and i can print hundreds of puctures. The only thing to be careful is not fully load the ink absorber. So i don’t print borderless. I always keep a white frame and i don’t do ink flush. Cleaning and deep cleaning are useless when the print head is clogged. The last time i had to clean the printer the magenta was like a solid gel. These modes could not solve that. But the printing kit does. The only cons it takes prints to recover full saturation of color. But i am always happy i recover my G6070 as i like it a lot. I have become a Canon surgeon now…nearly. After 3 years no ink absorber pad error..i have done one ink flush when i didn’t know well the technology. Never anymore. I am not worry of print head cleaning now.

I bought 3x Arctic F14 BioniX for the front panel, they start resonating in my case between 680-950 RPM. The humming is driving me nuts. So i've forced them to work at 645, sadly I don't dare making fan curve due to the nasty resonance.

The only printer that has ever worked for me is the brother T220W, seriousely a good printer and after 4 years no problems and thousands of documents😊

Washing the sponge with warm water and then resetting the purge count limit is an obvious solution to this. It is MALICIOUS that this process is not only not documented and guided by the manufacturer but MADE IMPOSSIBLE TO DO.
